KEBONOMİTRPreparing the data

Türkiye’s economy,
seen from the embers.

A kebab price shows what a wage buys at the table. Kebonomi follows that relationship across years, cities and portions.

Early monthly values provide price context; they are not direct kebab documents. The publication threshold of ten independent kebab documents per year for 1980–2004 has not yet been met.

THE KEBONOMİ INDEX FAMILY

Not a single number.
A system of connected indicators.

Kebonomi is an independent measurement framework that brings kebab prices, net wages, working time, portion weight and geography into one data contract.

HOW IT DIFFERS FROM THE BIG MAC INDEX

Beyond a standard product, we examine the wider everyday economy.

The Big Mac Index compares currencies through one standardized product. Kebonomi derives separate indicators for wages, food inflation, working time, portion shrinkage and urban purchasing power from the same observation framework.

THE STANDARDIZATION PROBLEM

When the product varies, the method must be more explicit.

A 120-gram Adana in Istanbul is not the same product as a 180-gram portion in Adana. Every observation is stored at product, weight, service and source level; missing fields are never inferred.

Kebonomi for Türkiye; Kebonomics for global comparison. This Türkiye-only product is Kebonomi. Once a common standard and cross-country data network are ready, the separate global comparison layer will launch under the Kebonomics name.

RESEARCH DESK

One narrative.
Five layers of verification.

The home page summarises the finding; the index, open data, source ledger, methodology and historical research pages show how the calculation is built.

  1. 01
    KEBAB PURCHASING POWER INDEX

    What wages buy, across time.

Research coverage reaches back to 1980. In the calculated 2005–2026 headline index, compare how many standard portions net wages can buy and the time cost of the same portion.

  2. 02
    OPEN DATA

Every result, published with its evidence.

Price range, source-document count, price points used in the median, confidence and method period are published for every calculated year. The series is not yet a balanced national restaurant sample.

  3. 03
    SOURCE LEDGER

Every number has a traceable history.

Inspect the city, source type, service scope and date chain for every calculated index value from 2005 to 2026. The 1980–2004 context series remain separate on the historical research page.

  4. 04
    METHODOLOGY

Not a claim, a reproducible method.

Every result is published with its product definition, wage weighting, price median and working-time formula. Sampling limits for a national median are stated separately.

    HISTORICAL SOURCE RESEARCH

Tracing the evidence back to 1980. No document, no data.

A twelve-month context series is ready for every year from 1980 to 2004. These are not independent kebab-price sources. Direct portion and tariff documents are counted separately; no year enters the headline index before ten verified documents are found.

Every new document
rebuilds the measure.

The next objective is to match portion-weighted city observations with the official CPI series. As the evidence base grows, every connected index will be recalculated under the same method.
